Bearcat-of-the-Week honours went to rookie defenceman, Jack McGovern. Getting on the score-sheet is not common practice for this young blue-liner as he completes his first year of MHL regular season play but playing a safe defensive game is. He joins Curtis Heffernan and Graham Rutledge as the rookie component on a defence first team. Being play-off bound is special to all of them as they grow their game.

He came up through the Dartmouth Whaler Minor Program to the Bantam level where he competed for the Whaler Major Bantams. Next up was a two year run with the Dartmouth Steele Subaru Midgets, earning a trip to the Telus Cup in the 2015-2016 season. At the conclusion of that year, he was a Bearcat and Saint John Sea Dog draft pick. In August of this year his Major Junior rights were acquired by the Halifax Mooseheads. After a strong Mooseheads camp he reported to the Bearcats. He brings a big body and right shot to the defensive corps. Hes responded well to MHL play and in recent games hes stepped up with additional as demands were placed on him.
